Getting a good print

Print at actual size

Turn off “Fit to page” or scaling in the print dialog, otherwise cards come out slightly too small and the cut marks won't line up.

Use a sharp logo

SVG logos stay crisp at any size. For PNG or JPG, the checker below the preview shows the print resolution — aim for 300 dpi or more.

Test the QR code

Keep it at least 15 mm wide with dark modules on a light background, then scan a printed card with a couple of different phones.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a business card?+

85 × 55 mm in most of Europe and the UK, 3.5 × 2 inches (88.9 × 50.8 mm) in the US and Canada, and 91 × 55 mm in Japan. Choose a size or enter your own, in millimetres or inches.

What are bleed, trim and safe area?+

The trim line is where the card is cut. Bleed is extra background past that line — usually 3 mm or ⅛ inch — so a slightly off cut doesn't leave a white edge. The safe area is a margin inside the trim where text stays, so nothing important gets cut off.

Which PDF should I send to a print shop?+

“Download print PDF”: one page per side at the exact card size plus bleed, with crop marks and the fonts embedded. Check your printer's requirements — some want no crop marks or a different bleed.

Can I print business cards at home?+

Yes. “Download sheet PDF” fits as many cards as possible on A4 or US Letter with cut marks. Print at 100% / Actual size on card stock (around 250–350 gsm, or 65–110 lb cover, if your printer takes it), then cut along the marks. For double-sided cards, the backs are mirrored so they line up when you flip on the long edge.

Will the colours match my screen?+

Not always. Screens show RGB colour and printers use ink, so bright blues, greens and oranges often print duller. For exact brand colours, ask your printer for a proof.

Can I add a QR code?+

Yes — enter a link and it's added to templates that use one, then checked with an independent decoder. For a QR code that saves your contact details to a phone, create a vCard QR in the Northlane QR Code Generator.

Is my information or logo uploaded?+

No. Your details and logo stay in your browser and PDFs are made on your device. You can save the design as a file, or tick “Keep this design on this device” to store it in this browser.
